It’s not just “Women of Dirt” who are in ascendancy. According to Bicycle Paper in Seattle, “Women of Steel” road racers are on the rise in the Northwest!
Wow. Who better to have testifying before legislators on bike safety than an Olympic gold medalist named Kristin Armstrong. Her observations about riding in Idaho are well-taken.
As we suspected, Gov. Bill Ritter is in worse shape than his well-intentioned aide made it out to be (i.e., laughing it up) after Ritter crashed while riding Tuesday. He’s expected to spend at least a fourth day in the hospital, and while we wish him a speedy recovery, we won’t be feeding him any one-liners.
Remember John Cook, the Fairfax County supervisor who observed that a bicycle is not a transportation device? Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling has countered with a detailed, reasoned, fact-laden response.
DrunkCyclist: Another rider mowed down by a garbage truck. What is it about garbage trucks and cyclists in Arizona? Remember the Flagstaff kid who got cut down last November?
Our guy Andy Schleck has kicked off his season a bit late due to a nagging knee injury. He said after racing his knee only began to twinge after about 160k. The good part is the 160k. But knee complaints seldom disappear entirely, and Andy can’t ride 100 percent until they do.
