Burglars using street view to spot potential bike thefts? Fixie punk is dead? Should Web anonymity be banned? Have you done your taxes?

OK, taxes are behind us. Now it’s time to start getting ready for Bike Month.

Yet another mini-Whistler is moving forward.

“A brief statement from the summit’s Joint Information Center offered no details on whether the cyclist hit the 2-and-a-half-ton truck, often referred to as “deuce and a half,” or if the truck ran into the woman.” Anyone care to make an educated guess here?

Velo Fellow cooperates in a presumably feel-good article about riding with kids and instead gets hammered for parental irresponsibility. Just another argument for ending anonymity, the cancer of the Web.

Maybe the burglars who stole Gordon Rayner’s bike from his garage spotted it on Google Street view, and maybe not.

Bike messenger punk is moving mainstream, we see it on the city streets every day. And except for the fact that it includes no helmets, we’re all for it.

The last-minute bike legislation keeps rolling in: Wisconsin passed a “dooring” law that will aid cyclists by clarifying lack of liability in a dooring incident and enabling cyclists to press for damages in court. Washington has a law governing dooring, albeit not explicitly in cycling cases. Good discussion on the Cascade Bicycle Club board, thanks to Rob Brown.

The $6 billion bike industry continues to defy gravity, at least in the aggregate (some shops and manufacturers are suffering more than others). We wrote about the buoyancy locally, but numbers are up across the board for similar reasons we found cited by local shops. Good news on the eve of Bike Month, beginning today! And the weather is supposed to cooperate spectacularly! Get out ‘n Ride fast/Live slow!

Cascade is compiling a list of Bike Month events, here‘s the early release. Bike to Work Day on May 15th should be a barnburner this year!

Bicycle Retailer: If what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, then Bike Magazine may have a second wind after all. Here’s the optimistic outlook. The potential darker truth: Print publishing is getting hammered, and magazines are downsizing to almost nothing or going out of business altogether. Let’s hope for the best with the Bike Mag folks!

Lance is pleased with his comeback from surgery so far and still on track to “appear at the starting line” at next week’s Giro d’Italia. How far beyond the starting line he gets is anyone’s guess, but a ceremonial appearance is better than none! The main goal is to keep from reinjuring his shoulder so he can point to the Tour.
