Why won't anyone believe Alexandre Vinokourov when he says he's clean?

Alexandre Vinokourov won the 2010 Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic. Now all he has to do is persuade the world at large that he did it drug-free.

He got booed as he crossed the finish line, an unheard-of reception for a spring Classic winner.

He’s “saddened” by suspicions he cheated his way to victory.

It seems unlikely but not impossible that Vino rode clean, given the Schlecks’ bad luck and roll of the dice factor in early season classics. Still, he could handle the skepticism a lot better. These guys need a press agent bad — and not the ones Tiger or Alex Rodriguez or Barry Bonds used!
