Giro d’Italia, Day 1: Who is Brent Bookwalter?!

| |

Bradley Wiggins won the short (10-minute-plus) prologue time trial today at the Giro d’Italia, but the big news was No. 2 by just two seconds: Someone from Athens GA by the name of Brent Bookwalter.

Who is he? Hey, no problem, just check Wikipedia. His entry is four whopping lines long!

Hoping that this result is meaningful and dope-free, we’ll look forward to finding out more about this guy as the Giro progresses. (VeloNews says he won the under-23 U.S. time trial championship back in 2006 — oh, yeah, NOW we remember!) In the meantime, on the Universal Sports live coverage, he looked quick all right.
