Austin has something akin to Seattle. Well organized mountain bike group that has an excellent relationship with the city parks department. This includes volunteer trail maintenance and input on trail planning.

Barton Creek greenbelt, Walnut Creek Park and the new Slaughter Creek trail are a result.

“Then the Parks Department put in a jump park down below…”
The parks department did not put anything in. It was and still is classified as a dirt storage area. The dirt had always been used buy area kids but the summer of 1995 and four shovels belonging to riders of the 50th St house laid what has carried on for 15 years. The parks department only let it continue with the only contribution being more dirt.
