Tiger Mountain is covered with trillium this Spring — be sure to watch for them if you’re there during this weekend’s predicted sunshine. I don’t recall noticing trillium at Tiger — Kachess Ridge being the ride I’ve most associated them with year after year. Perhaps with climate disruption they are spreading to lower climes. They [...]

Bike to Work Day is tomorrow! Looking outside this a.m. ain’t too promising, but the forecast is still calling for sunshine and 68 degrees. Quick check if you haven’t done so already: Test ride the bike today, lubing chain and other parts if needed and getting the tires up to pressure. Find someone to ride [...]

Riding his bike in Seattle’s U District, my friend Chuck Taylor got hit by a car. It looks like he’s OK — shaken up and a couple of minor injuries, but nothing worse (as it appears now). His blog post, “I could be dead,” is a fascinating account of the accident “process.” It’s been more [...]

Perhaps it’s mere coincidence, but I found pregnant symbolism in the announcement that Jim Vesely, head of The Seattle Times editorial page, will retire on Bike to Work Day. Vesely is no friend to cyclists. He opposed bike trail funding in Bellevue and, more infamously, championed an annual fee on cyclists in King County — [...]

The weather outlook is good (sunny and 67) for Bike to Work Day here in Seattle this Friday. Here‘s Cascade Bicycle Club’s “Party from Dawn to Dusk” Guide. Come on out, it’s a rolling carnival on wheels! Elsewhere the countdown is on as well : In the San Francisco Bay Area, where the San Jose [...]

Lance/Astana soap opera silences for now: Apparently Lance’s public squawking freed up some funding for the Giro d’Italia leg of Astana’s season. As far as the Tour de France goes, stay tuned…on Universal Sports channel, which will carry the Giro after all. Another city adjusts to increased bike traffic: Vancouver BC is winnowing vehicular traffic [...]

On one front, Lance Armstrong deserves huge accolades for going ahead with his racing plans despite a broken shoulder. He’s making the talk-show and publicity rounds, promoting his foundation and the fight against cancer, and generally playing the role of beneficent godfather of the sport, and that’s all good. On the other hand, you have [...]

Great racing at Port Angeles on Sunday, here‘s the results from Fluidride…congrats to winners Curtis Keene and Kirkland ace Katie Holden, and to local Issaquah/Renton star Luke Strobel on second place! The Marin place to be later this month is its annual Mountain Bike Film Festival & Party (Blowout!!!) on Sunday, May 17, in San [...]

Having been out of town at the Sea Otter Classic, I’d missed the official opening date of April 13 (2 days earlier than usual) on Tiger Mountain, my favorite place to ride in the Seattle area. The sun was still out when I started, but a breeze was kicking up and the forecast called for [...]

The last-minute bike legislation keeps rolling in: Wisconsin passed a “dooring” law that will aid cyclists by clarifying lack of liability in a dooring incident and enabling cyclists to press for damages in court. Washington has a law governing dooring, albeit not explicitly in cycling cases. Good discussion on the Cascade Bicycle Club board, thanks [...]
